Having completed their season they sit top of the league, although the championship is not guaranteed. Title challengers Sunderland sit second in the league, five points behind the Lady Imps with two games in hand.

It is not the first time that the Lady Imps have had an agonising wait. Last season they lost out on promotion on the final day of the season by just two points.

It sets up a nerve wracking few weeks for Lincoln, but Chairman Geoff Adams remains optimistic.

Meanwhile Lincoln Ladies and England goalkeeper Kay Hawke has been given permission to play for Ventura County Fusion in the US. Hawke will fly out to America on 9th May but will return in time for the new season in August.
