The Mezz Bar has had its license to sell alcohol temporarily suspended after a police appeal to council chiefs.

A full hearing to review its entitlement to a license will be held on Thursday, May 27th.

Meanwhile, Joe Palmer has been remanded in custody until he appears at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday, July 2nd. He has not yet given a plea.

UPDATE 6 — 11:14 07/05/10

Joe Palmer, who has been charged with the murder of Stuart Whitelaw, will appear in Lincoln Crown Court on May 10th for a bail application – where his trial date will be set.

Until then he will be held in custody.

UPDATE 5 — 20:15 06/05/10

The 26-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the killing of Stuart Whitelaw has been charged with murder.

Joe Palmer of Allenby Close in Lincoln will appear before magistrates on Friday, May 7th.

Stuart Whitelaw died after being stabbed in the Mezz Bar in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, May 3rd.

UPDATE 4 — 14:15 05/05/10

Police have recovered a combat knife from the Brayford after it was seen floating by people on the bridge by the Engine Shed, says a source near the scene.

A search for evidence is under way, in and around the scene of a stabbing in Lincoln’s Mezz Bar early on Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said they could not at this stage confirm if the knife is connected with the incident.

UPDATE 3 — 09:00 05/05/10

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the Mezz Bar stabbing in the early hours of Monday morning.

The first man, a 25-year-old local, has been released on bail until June 10th pending further enquiries.

Police are continuing their appeal for those with information to contact them.

UPDATE 2 — 12:30 04/05/10

A man who died after being stabbed in an attack at Lincoln’s Mezz Bar has been identified by Lincolnshire Police as Stuart Whitelaw.

The 40-year-old victim was stabbed in the early hours of Monday morning. Police were called to the scene at 01.45am.

Stuart Whitelaw was then taken to Lincoln County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 25-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police are also looking to talk to a stocky, tall man, in his mid-to-late twenties, with short brown hair, who was also at the scene.

UPDATE 1 — 16:26 03/05/10

A 25-year-old Lincoln man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was stabbed at the Mezz Bar last night, May 2nd.

The Police say he is in custody “assisting with enquiries”.

A post mortem on the dead man’s body is ongoing, with details possibly being released tomorrow, say Lincolnshire Police.

The identity of the victim is yet to be released.

A man has died after being stabbed at the Mezz Bar bar on Pavilions student accommodation.

The 40-year-old local man was taken to hospital shortly after the incident at 01.45am, where he was pronounced dead.

The Police have now launched a murder inquiry. There have been no arrests so far.
