Often described as the fastest growing sport in the world, Mixed Martial Arts continues to develop and reach every corner of the globe.
Once a no-rules battle between different martial arts, now the sport has birthed a whole new combat style. Practitioners of MMA are now expected to be masters in multiple arts, leading them to become ‘ultimate fighters’.
Dogged as ‘human cock-fighting’ by some people, slowly but surely the art is being accepted and the athletes have been given the opportunity to showcase their talents all over the world, as well as on the silver screen.
The changing perception of MMA can be seen by looking at the variety of people who have been signing up for lessons. Men, women and children have all been joining the combat sports revolution.
Oliver Gibbons visited Lincoln-based gym, Revo-MMA to explore the rising popularity and the ethics behind the controversial sport.
