Over 250 Lincoln sign-ups so far for London demo – ORIGINAL

Over 250 University of Lincoln students and staff have signed up to travel to London with Lincoln Students’ Union, for a demonstration against higher education cuts and increasing tuition fees.

The SU is putting on free coaches down to the demonstration, which is being held on Wednesday, November 10th, by the NUS and the University and College Union (UCU).

The deadline for those wanting to sign up is Friday, October 29th. Specific plans for the day are due to be released next week.

Chris Charnley, president of Lincoln SU, is urging students to inform their tutors if they will be missing any seminars or lectures: “We have spoken with the vice-chancellor [Mary Stuart] who fully supports the activity and student attending, however it is important to keep in mind that usual regulations apply,” he said.

Many university sports teams up and down the country play fixtures on a Wednesday afternoon, so could clash with the demonstration. Charnley said: “NUS and British Universities and Colleges Sport have agreed to help all teams wishing to move fixtures, something that has already been addressed with no conflict to our membership.”

You can sign up to travel on the coaches to the demo by sending an email to su@lincoln.ac.uk.
