Following the release of his “At Your Inconvenience” album earlier this year, Professor Green embarked on tour of the same name, which stopped off at the Engine Shed on Saturday December 10th.
Brighton-born, Rizzle Kicks opened the gig as they had the onlookers dancing to the Harry Potter and James Bond theme tunes. The duo also performed their hits, including their Ed Sheeran – “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” remix, “When I Was A Youngster,” “Mama Do The Hump” and finishing with “Down with the Trumpets.” It was the perfect start to the night.
Shortly after Rizzle Kicks left the stage, the second support acts, DJ IQ and Felix, warmed the crowd up with some of the latest chart hits. Towards the end of the set, Professor Green’s band took to the stage, shortly followed by the man himself -dressed in a navy “D.P.M.O” hoodie from his own merchandise.
Professor Green’s setlist mainly consisted of tracks off the “At Your Inconvenience” album, though also included singles from his 2010 album, “Alive Till I’m Dead,” such as “I Need You Tonight,” “Just Be Good To Green” and “Monster.”
Real name Stephen Manderson, Professor Green showed his emotional side during his performance, most evident when he sang “Astronaut,” a song tells the real life story of a young woman who lost her life due a heroin addiction.
As the show proved too much for some people who had to be taken over the barriers, Professor Green said: “I’ve never seen so many people being pulled out. I’m trying to put on a f**king show.”
For the encore, Professor Green returned to the stage to sing “Jungle” and “Avalon.” He ended the night by thanking everyone for purchasing his number one single, “Read All About It,” which he then performed.
Following the show, Professor Green tweeted “Lincoln! We f**king had it – thank you people.” While many of the spectators felt he had been upstaged by his support act, it was still a great performance, as he took the audience on an emotional rollercoaster through his life.
