That makes the overall Varsity score 3-1 to Derby.

13.29 - John Fernandez:

Buxton Football: In a dramatic turn of events, one of Lincoln’s goalscorers, Ryan Green, has been shown a red card for kicking the ball at the referee.

Lincoln are going to find it difficult to get back in to this now. Still 3-2.

12.55 - John Fernandez:

Buxton Football: The players are back on the pitch in the football. Ryan Green (the Lincoln goalscorer) has impressed so far with some good touches. Let’s hope his good form continues into the second half and that the goal just before half time hasn’t dampened their spirits.

12.53 - David Wriglesworth:

Despite the dismal weather and the poor results, the support for Lincoln is still going strong.

Lincoln SU tweeted:

“LINCOLN JETS CHEERLEADERS – strutting their stuff on the derby campus … Let’s go Lincoln lets go!”

That makes it 1-0 to Derby overall.

Buxton Football: Ryan Green has opened the scoring for Lincoln after the Derby keeper made an error. Green’s shot deflected off the woodwork and in. 1-0 Lincoln!

Buxton Football: The men’s football kicked off at 11:45.

Our reporter, Rosie Kelly, says: “Some early pressure from Derby has resulted in a free kick, but it’s bounced harmlessly off the bar. A close shave for Lincoln there. “

12.02 - John Fernandez:

The first game of the day is underway and it’s the Rugby League.

Rugby League: The Linc’s Josh Francis says: “Lincoln have made a slow start giving away a soft try to Derby. The conditions aren’t great for kicking and they didn’t manage to convert it. The score stands at 4-0 Derby.”

Last year, Lincoln’s Rugby League team didn’t have anyone to play against so they played a friendly instead.

11.56 - David Wriglesworth:

Buxton Football: Slightly later than planned, the football has kicked off. The Linc’s Rosie Kelly just tweeted:

“Ooh lad, we need a linesman! Football about to start at #varsity2012

11.50 - John Fernandez:

No matches have kicked off as of yet but both the Lincoln and Derby football and rugby teams are warming up at the moment.

The games look set to begin shortly. We’ll be bringing you a goal/try by goal/try coverage throughout the fixtures.

11.47 - John Fernandez:

Just a reminder for everyone keeping up with our coverage on how this Varsity scoring system works: There are 16 different matches today in Derby and for each match won, the university who wins receives one point. If there is a draw the points are split, so a half goes to each university’s points total.

Effectively, it’s the first to nine points who will win.

Come on Lincoln!

11.40 - John Fernandez:

It’s not just sport at the University of Derby though this year. A host of entertainment has been put on by Derby’s SU, including (bizarrely) pole dancing. You can’t make this stuff up!

11.33 - John Fernandez:

The buses have just arrived in Derby’s main campus but most of the events are at different venues so the teams and spectators will be going off on coaches to where their respective sports are being played.

The Linc’s Josh Francis is already in Derby. He says: “The weather is awful, but the buses are here. All the sports are supposedly on as it stands. We’ll keep you posted on any postponements.”

11.22 - John Fernandez:

One of the teams who will be battling it out against Derby today are the Lincoln Futsal team. They’ve already had a fantastic year and capped it off with their president, Daniel Sam, being appointed VP Activities. Here you can see the boys in action:

11.12 - John Fernandez:

Lincoln will be competing in 14 different sports today at the Derby campus. The buses have just arrived at where the events will be held and the first to kick-off will be the Men’s Rugby League and the Buxton Football.

11.05 - John Fernandez:

Hello and a big welcome to The Linc’s 2012 Varsity coverage. This year, Lincoln’s sports teams will be taking the fight to the University of Derby’s campus in the hope of a sixth successive Varsity win.
