Your trusty ankle boots have seen you through the winter, and let’s be honest, most of spring. Now, the winds are changing and summer footwear is finally getting a look in. spylovebuy_6473871561214779

This year, bold shapes, dark colours and retro-style reworks are all replacing the sleek, robust shoes of the winter trends.

The slip-on sandal

Once associated with your Grandma’s holiday essentials, the slip-on had been given a sleek update with leather or iridescent straps taking centre stage. and are perfect with a pair of city shorts and a tucked-in tee.

The jelly shoe

It’s a pity the pair you had when you were five won’t fit any more, because there are versions of this shoe all over the high street and it’s perfect for any sunny adventures. Topshop have a sleeker version in block colours called “geek shoes”, or you could go for sparkles and thick shapes in Primark and New Look.

The platform

When it comes to the summer heel, the 70’s throwback platform is taking centre stage. Let your footwear be reminiscent of night fever and flared jeans and the era of disco – the sleek, melancholic court shapes of winter are gone and with summer come a more daring and more colourful counterpart that will bring a touch of fun to the simplest of dresses.

The trucker sandal

Possibly the biggest trend of the year, and a far cry from the slip on toe-post we are all so used to, comes the flat-form, chunky sandal. With thick ankle straps and some buckle detailing, this daring shoe carries on the winter sleek-grunge trend through to summer with as much attitude as a pair of Doc Martens. Juxtapose yours with a lace dress, de-constructed hair and makeup to make a ‘Courtney Love’ affair of your summer.
