Lincoln’s not exactly the biggest city in England, but it sure has a lot to offer when it comes to events and entertainment. Here’s our top picks for this weekend.

No matter what your cup of tea is, you can easily find something fun to do in Lincoln. To make sure new students (and old ones for that matter) know all about what’s happening around our city, we’ve decided to provide you with a weekly guide to weekedns in Lincoln.

Friday 7th of October

High street farmer’s market
The High Street Market meets on the first Friday and second Wednesday of each month. Today it will be located at the bottom at Steep Hill from 9am to 4pm. You will be met with stalls offering a range of local organic products, such as fresh food ingredients. There will also be cakes and snacks available to enjoy. Why go to the supermarket when you can do your food shop for the weekend in beautiful surroundings?

Odeon cinema
If you are in the mood for a film, The Girl On The Train was released earlier this week, and will be shown at the Odeon this weekend. In short, the film is a physiological thriller where a divorced woman (Emily Blunt) gets entangled into a missing persons investigation that turns her life upside down.

The novel, which the film is based on, was written by Paula Hawkins. It became number one on The New York Times best seller list, and the film is predicted to be a huge hit as well. If thrillers are not your thing, there are plenty more to choose from, all of which can be found on the Odeon’s website.

Saturday 8th of October

Craft Market:
Lincoln’s Craft Market is usually held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, from March to December. On Saturday you will find the market at Lincoln Cornhill, which is very close to the High Street. Some of the things the market offers are hand-crafted ornaments, jewellery, metalwork, photography, soaps, candles and pottery, which has all been made by local artisans. Freshers, you might find something nice for your new bedroom, so it’s definitely worth going into High Street to take a look. The market will be on from 9am to 4pm.

LincolnHack
Lincoln Hack is a 24-hour coding competition in Lincoln. You are supposed to compete in teams, which can be up to four people. The main idea of the competition is for people to be creative and create something new using technology. “Hardware hacks, Software hacks, API mashups, funny things, arty things, noisy things… whatever you decide to create, you’ve got 24 hours to do it!” Check out their webpage for more information about the event.
