Lincoln were drawn against a Liverpool side who sit top of the Women’s Championship, one tier below the Women’s Super League.

The Imps booked their place in the 4th round with a hard-fought win over Northampton Town in extra time. The result didn’t always look certain, as up until the final stages of the second half Lincoln were trailing 1-2.

Jess Rousseau levelled for the Imps and went onto score two more in extra time, completing her hat-trick.

We spoke to Imps manager Lee Mitchell, who looked back at the weekend’s result. He said: “I’m proud of the way the players kept going right to the end and didn’t change the way they played.

Everybody was in the huddle going into extra time with the belief that we could go onto win.”

To reach this stage in the competition, Lincoln have had to beat a number of teams. This includes Holwell sports, Burton Albion, Leafield Athletic and Northampton Town.

Mitchell added: “To get to the fourth round there are no easy games. We’ve worked so hard to get here.”

When Lincoln were drawn out of the hat against the Merseyside team, Mitchell said: “The phone just went crazy in the players’ chat. We do have some Liverpool fans in the squad.”

But the Imps boss will hope to not let the occasion affect his team’s performance. He said: “We’re not going to go there and look at Leagues. We will have a very clear game plan and work together as a team.

We’ve got big league games in between now and then, but the players will be focused on the task at hand.”

The fixture will take place on the 30th January in the new year at Prenton Park, the home of Tranmere Rovers.
