This term’s controversy-laden Carnage bar crawl will take place on Monday November 9th, and its fancy dress theme is “Doctors and Nurses”.

The bars involved are listed on the event’s Facebook page, including The Square Sail, Varsity, Walkabout, Revolution, and Chicago Rocks. Attendees will finish the night in Ritzy’s.

Carnage costs £8 per student, which includes a t-shirt and “entry to all venues”, although some of the venues are already free to enter on a Monday night. Tickets go on sale online on Tuesday at midday. Students can also buy their t-shirts on Friday October 30th at 7pm in Walkabout or Varsity.

Last year’s event, which went without major incident, had been slammed by Lincoln City councillors as “disgusting” when they passed a motion against it.

This year’s event has already taken flak. Karen Lee, a City councillor for the Carholme Ward, denounced Carnage as just out to make a profit.

“I am not opposed to responsible drinking, by students or anyone else for that matter.

“What I do object to is binge drinking and irresponsible behaviour by people whose only reason for promoting an event like Carnage is to make a profit. Binge drinking is dangerous to those who do it and can have serious consequences.”

A joint statement from the University of Lincoln and the Students’ Union said: “[We] do not support or promote Carnage, or any event encouraging ‘binge’ drinking, which may lead to unsafe or anti-social behaviour.”
