Lincoln City were beaten 2-0 by Torquay United on Saturday afternoon, making it five games without a win for Steve Tilson’s side.

Second half goals from forwards Chris Zebroski and Lee Tomlin gave the Gulls a vital win which has moved them up to 6th in League Two – and pushed the Imps down into 18th position.

City are now just eight points above the drop zone with six games of the season remaining after Barnet recorded a 4-1 away victory against Burton Albion.

Tilson kept faith with the City team that lost 2-1 at Port Vale in midweek after defender Danny Hone proved his fitness in time for the game. There were two changes amongst the Lincoln substitutes, with the recalled Drewe Broughton and fit-again Ashley Grimes both taking their places on the bench.

Grimes, Lincoln’s top scorer this season by some distance, replaced Portsmouth loanee Tom Kilbey for the second half but he couldn’t inspire the Imps to a positive result.

Ben Hutchinson could have put City into the lead halfway through the second half but his close range effort was well saved by Scott Bevan in the Torquay goal. Soon after, Torquay scored two in the space of 10 minutes to snatch all three points.

Gillingham are Lincoln City’s next opponents with the 7th placed club visiting Sincil Bank next Saturday, April 9th.
