Four candidates are running for the role of President in the upcoming Lincoln Students’ Union elections.
They will be hoping to take over from Jennine Fox, who has filled the role since summer 2012. The Linc caught up with the candidates ahead of the elections.
Joe Hartley
Third year sport and exercise science student Joe Hartley “developed an understanding of what the SU stands for and how it works” through his experiences as senior liaison rep for sport and deputy chair of the Student Council.
As well as making the university more “welcoming and supporting to Lincoln residents who attend the University of Lincoln”, Hartley’s ambitions are to “help to continue the development of the student unions links with the community” and “to represent” students with issues.

Stefan Prest
Stefan Prest aims to introduce “a more pro-active and engaging students union by students for students, increased funding and support for sports clubs and societies and improved support and assistance for international students”.
He also pledged for “better industry linked course content and employability support and increased opportunities and support for post graduate students”.
Prest said: “I’m proud to call myself a student here at the University of Lincoln. We’re the fastest rising university in the country and we’ve got some of the best teaching resources, facilities and academics a student could wish for.”

Daniel Sam
Current vice president of activities at the Students’ Union Daniel Sam is also running for SU president. He believes that he has “succeeded in delivering key manifesto pledges through primary values of which the union abides by; representing, inspiring and aiding participation in student activities”.
Sam’s campaign consists of “giving priority to student satisfaction and demands” and “enhancing university strategy partnerships with local companies”.
Sam added: “I want the students to vote, to have their say, to make that change. The opinion of sabbaticals is irrelevant. The opinion of our institution the students is what we abide by and work for.”

Chris Whitwood
Whitwood is running for president because he feels that he is “best suited for the job”.
His previous experiences at the Students’ Union, first as a senior school rep and later as a student trustee on the SU Board of Trustees, gave Whitwood “a fantastic insight into the SU’s successes and failings”, which is why he believes he is the perfect candidate for the job.
Whitwood: “My main manifesto point is to support sports and societies. This must be done on an individual basis as all sports and societies have different needs and wishes. I will also campaign to ensure library expansion, the purchase of new resources and the creation green space on campus is a priority.”
