Sophia Marie Bishell
I am currently in my final year of studying drama at the University of Lincoln. For the past year I have been representing students through existing Societies on campus after being elected as Societies Officer. Through studying my Drama course I have developed a range of transferable skills such as; great communication, determination, leadership, events management and people skills. The combination of these developed skills alongside my drive for a more communicative and approachable Student Union is the reason why you should vote for me.
EVENTS AND SOCIALS
Having fun at University is key to having a well-rounded experience whilst obtaining your degree. I will be pro-active in developing events that you want around campus, and develop the work I began as Societies Officer. In my current position I organise a monthly free music event ‘Sunday Social Sessions’, bringing students and the wider local community together. Therefore, as your VP Activities, I would introduce community-based projects, such as free Live Music, & International Food Events, held amongst the semesters alongside activities helping to build stronger relationships throughout the student body.
TAKING ACTION FOR SOCIETIES AND SPORTS
From gathering research I have an understanding that there is a critical issue with the level of support that clubs and societies receive from the SU. I am keen to efficiently bring more training facilities and workshop opportunities to relevant members of clubs and societies. Funding for Sports and Societies needs to be increased to develop their members further and to ensure more resources are available. As a result, I’m committed to getting to the root of why there is such a lack of funding, and thus finding a solution. In the past some clubs and societies have not been able to fulfil their maximum potential, due to their financial position. My introduction of innovative financial guidance and resources will undeniably ensure societies will be one step closer to achieving combined ambitions.
COMMUNICATIONS
Currently, I feel that there is a lot of red tape and unnecessary inconvenience when communicating with the student union. I will improve communications between the union and students to ensure all voices are heard; by implementing a social media strategy and attending drop ins. Students will be able to approach me in confidence with issues they face in regards to their club or the SU. I will listen to your issues and ideas and address them through appropriate action. I believe that the implementation of an agreed response time for any queries directed towards the SU will be the first step to reducing existing tensions.
If you vote for me, you have my word that I will try my upmost best to support you, with the sole aim for all students to get the opportunity to have the best activity experience possible whilst at Lincoln University!
Don’t fear, Sophia’s here, vote Sophia #1 VP Activities 2015!
