Lincoln City Goalkeeping Coach David Preece hopes his side can continue their push for the play-off positions this weekend.
The Imps lie seventh in the National League and take on Bromley, who sit one place higher in sixth, at Sincil Bank on Saturday.
Preece said: “Bromley’s a good game for us because it’s a game against a team just above us at home. It’s a chance for us to make a bit of progress if we can get the right result.”
Newly promoted Bromley have been the surprise package in the league so far this season but Preece insisted he wasn’t too surprised by how well they are performing.
“If you look up and down the leagues a lot of teams that get promoted, as long as they keep the same core of players together, they generally just feed off the confidence they gain from winning lots of games and getting promoted.
“That’s exactly what’s happened at Bromley and they’ve just kept that going.”
Reflecting on Tuesday evening’s 2-0 win against Tranmere Rovers in the F.A. Cup, Preece said:
“It was a great game to win. Tranmere two years ago were a League One club so it was pleasing. Both games were really competitive but I don’t think it’s taken too much out of us having an extra game this week,” he said.
City have conceded only six goals in their last nine games and Preece said he was pleased with his defences record:
“We were conceding too many goals at the start of the season, especially from set pieces so it’s good that we’ve tightened that up.”
He also emphasised how well the team as a whole is performing: “The defence is playing well, we’re scoring goals up front but also the lads who aren’t starting the game, they’re coming on an doing the job so it’s very satisfying from our point of view.”
