Lincoln United’s play-off hopes are back on track after a convincing 3-1 win over second bottom side Loughborough Dynamo in the Evo-Stik First Division South.
The Whites had been without a win in four league matches but two goals from Jack McGovern and a goal from Matthew Cotton secured the three points.
14 minutes in to the game The Whites had a penalty shout when Matthew Cotton was brought down in the area but referee Carratt turned down the appeal.
Four minutes later Mark Shelton found himself through on goal for Loughborough but Mark Walton made a good low save.
The Whites made the break through after 29 minutes when Jack McGovern sent the keeper the wrong way from a spot kick. Cotton was tackled from behind and the referee had no choice but to award the penalty.
Lincoln United held the edge at half-time but Loughborough were still in the game and were proving a threat through their counter-attacking play.
In the 52nd minute the Whites doubled their lead through Cotton. Jack McGovern produced a good run down the left and then squared the ball to Cotton who finished off the move.
However Loughborough went straight up the other end and reduced the deficit. Kevin Hannaghan forced another good save from Walton but the Whites’ defence failed to clear and Shelton curled in a fine shot from the edge of the area.
After 65 minutes McGovern restored the Whites’ two goal lead and scored his second of the game. Mitchell Griffiths’ shot from outside the box was cleverly flicked on by McGovern who once again wrong footed the keeper.
The Whites continued to control proceedings and didn’t give Loughborough a chance to get back in to the game. They could have had a fourth goal in the 93rd minute through Sam Wright but his header was straight at the keeper.
Lincoln United produced a dominant display in defeating Loughborough Dynamo 3-1. The Whites will be looking to make it two wins in a week when they play Kidsgrove Athletic at the Sun Hat Villas Stadium on Saturday.
