This week saw the start of the BUCS knockout competitions, and Lincoln certainly caught cup fever!
Badminton Men’s 1sts started the day with a convincing win over Nottingham Trent, with the Women’s 2nds also grabbing a win in the reverse fixture.
Moving into the afternoon, Men’s Football had a clean sweep, with the firsts getting their season moving forward at least with a 4-0 win over UEA, and the thirds beating Cranfield 2-1. The Women’s and Men’s 2nds were both awarded walkovers by their respective opponents.
Both Basketball teams had equally successful outings, the Women defeating Derby 1sts away and the Men progressing past Birmingham 72-56 at home.
Rugby League took the award for biggest margin of victory smashing past Derby 56-4 away from home to continue their flying start to the season. A possible tip to go all the way in their cup this year? We shall see!
Sometimes in sport, hard work and positive attitude can often feel laborious if the results just wont come, and I am overjoyed that hockey managed an unbeaten Wednesday with wins for both the Men and Women’s teams. Their attitude and work rate has been top drawer so far this year and hearing that they had both progressed certainly put a smile on my face Wednesday evening.
Also a mention to our swimmers who headed off to the BUCS short course events as well, a great opportunity to add some individual points to the tally – that currently sees us lying 68th in the overall league tables as we strive for top 60 come May.
Away from sport, we also have some large Societies events coming up. The second round of 8 out of 10 Swans takes place in the Platform next Tuesday evening, it was a fantastic atmosphere last time so pop down if you are free. The Great Society Bake Off will also be taking place at the start of December so keep your eyes peeled for information about that. Sports teams may also have a chance to take part so register your interest with activities@lincolnsu.com.
I look forward to seeing you all next week, keep up the good work!
