The University of Lincoln’s Archery Society will start their season with a permanent place to train- after spending much of last year trying to find a practice area fit for their needs.

The team has shot at the university’s Riseholme Campus since they were founded in 2013.

However, they were told after the sports fair last year that this venue was no longer available.

The confusion over where the club could practice meant taster sessions were not held until late into the year, limiting the number of members the team could recruit.

This year, the Sports Centre on the university’s Brayford Campus will be available for the club to practice.

They are due to begin training in this venue as soon as “appropriate netting” can be provided.

Until netting can be found, the team will hold training and taster sessions at Deans Sport & Leisure.

Harry Lack, coach of the Archery Society, says the team hopes that the new “home” will allow them to train more effectively for competitions.

He added: “It [not having a venue] hurt, but we got through it in the end. We didn’t get too many new members but we got enough to keep us going!

“This year, I am hoping we’ll be able to compete for more. I would love us to win our varsity game, and I’m even thinking about setting up some inter-society competitions.”

This year, the society has enjoyed a rise in the number of people signing up to take part in the sessions they have already held.
