Lincoln City’s season tickets have sold out ahead of the upcoming 21/22 season after fans eagerly started to snap them up once they were released on Wednesday 28th April. All season tickets were sold out in less than 3 months.
25% of fans ardently renewed their season tickets within the same day, which is the most sold in one day in the club’s history.
This eagerness to get back to watching games in somewhat normality is easy to understand. Particularly after such a long time away from the stands, with fans trapped watching from behind a screen which just hasn’t been the same experience.
Lincoln City announced the news on Twitter and released a video of captain Liam Bridcutt thanking the fans for their support stating, “we have just found out the news that we have sold out all the season tickets, I want to say a massive thank you for the support.”
“I can’t wait for everyone to get back into the ground and show us some more support.”
Even greater news is the government announcement that from the 19th of July, stadiums in England can return to full capacity. Sincil Bank, Lincoln City’s home ground has a capacity of over 10,000 passionate supporters who will be desperate to get back to the stands.
We spoke to lifelong Lincoln City fan and Lincoln United’s women’s Director of football Gordon Burnley. He has renewed his season ticket yet again this season and when asked if he was excited to get back into the stadium he stated, “yes, can’t wait. The atmosphere, the social side and live football! I can’t wait.”
For fans like Gordon Burnley supporting local teams such as Lincoln is essential, “Lincoln have been lucky enough to have people running the club better now than in that past regarding the financial side. A lot of work gets done on a small budget, so it helps by renewing it but as a fan it comes as second nature.”
Season tickets have sold out quickly due to the combination of the longing to get back into the normal routine of going to a game and the remarkable season Lincoln had last year. Lincoln finished 5th last season, reaching the play off final but ended up disappointed in a 2-1 defeat to Blackpool.
However, despite manager Michael Appleton failing to achieve promotion Lincoln showed fans that they have a side to challenge for promotion and maybe even clinch the title. This will have inspired a high number of season ticket renewals and attracted new fans ready for the upcoming season.
Lincoln’s will play their first home game of the season against Fleetwood Town on the 14th August, a team which they lost 2-1 against last time out in March. However, unlike last time, Sincil Bank will be packed full of passionate supporters who will be hoping to make all the difference.
