Lincoln County Hospital, Grantham and District Hospital, and Pilgrim Hospital Boston put up the star decorations to mark the beginning of Diwali.
Repurposing the ornaments from the 2021 Upon a Star Christmas campaign, the festival of light was celebrated from Monday October 24-Friday 28 October.
Diwali decorations were funded with the £10,000 raised by last year’s sponsors.
Fizzco Projects installed 50 stars in total across the three locations.
Madison Bown, a Lincoln student, said: ”I’m from Birmingham and we go all out there, so to see my culture being celebrated here in such a beautiful and meaningful way makes me feel at home.”
Isabella Parr, another Lincoln student, said: ”I think the meaning of Diwali is all the more important given the dark times we’re living in now, so it’s great to see the festival being celebrated here.”
Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.
Gary Burr, Charity Fundraiser at ULHT, said: “We were approached by a member of staff asking if we wanted to support Diwali, and we said yes.”
“We try and support everyone, so I would suggest all hospitals do it.”
Trish Tsuro, Chair of the BAME Staff Network, said: “Our staff spend a lot of time at work and consider their work teams’ part of their families. Therefore, it is only right that we acknowledge and celebrate the cultural festivals that they honour, home away from home.
“Learning and participating in each other’s cultural events is one of the ways that our Trust want diversity and inclusion to be a significant part of the organisation’s tapestry.”
The stars will be put up a second time this year on Friday November 18 at Lincoln County Hospital to celebrate Christmas.
Any businesses and individuals interested in fundraising or sponsoring a star should contact gary.burr@ulh.nhs.uk.
The resulting money will be sent to the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity, to fund added equipment and services and facilities for patients and staff.
