Just days before Lincoln City kick their season off away to Bolton Wanderers, their two Danish players spoke to LincSport. New recruit Lukas Jensen and fan-favourite Lasse Sorensen spoke to us about their pre-season preparations and hopes for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Goalkeeper Lukas Jensen is one of six new arrivals at the LNER Stadium and has told LincSport what attracted him to Lincoln City: “I had a good conversation with Mark Kennedy and the coaching staff, and they told me the vision they have and what they want to achieve, which is something I really can see myself in. This was the best possible move for me, so I am over the moon to have it done.

He also said: “Pre-season has been great, it’s been tough because there is loads of training, but I can’t wait for the first game to be here. Obviously, we have had some pre-season games but its just not the same as getting the league started.”

Fellow Dane, Lasse Sorensen grew from a fringe player at the start of last season to being one of the first names on the team sheet for this campaign. He said: “I think we have had a brilliant pre-season; we have worked really hard and continued the style of play from last season.

“Unfortunately, we lost our last game [against Rotherham United], but we know that we have to play well to win our games, and we didn’t do that.”

Sorensen added to his thoughts on pre-season by praising the new arrivals, and their professionalism. He said: “They have been really good around the dressing room since they’ve come in, even when they have come in at different times. They’ve all done really well in training; they look like really good players, and they have done really well in the matches too.”

The versatile midfielder also gave us thoughts on how he thinks The Imps will perform in  the new season.

“I think we had a good season last season, and we are trying to do equally as well but you must respect the league. League One is a very tough league, and if you look there are about 10 to 15 teams that are hoping to finish higher. We are looking to do that too, of course. If we take it one game at a time, and do as well as we know we can, I’m sure we have a great chance of finishing even higher.

“Personally, my confidence is the same as it always is. I’m focussed on doing as well as I can for the team, and hopefully we the team will perform as well as we think we can, and as we should do.”

He added: “I can’t wait to start against Bolton and hopefully we can have a good start”.

As the start of the League One season edges ever closer, Lincoln City are readying for a season of competition, having their eyes firmly set on improvement from last season’s impressive finish.
