After narrow Lincoln City’s Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham United, Mark Kennedy reminisced about a chance encounter with his managerial counterpart.
He started: “Ten years ago I was in a shop in London and I walked up to a gentleman and I said ‘Excuse me, I just want to say congratulations on your new job’.”
Mark continued: “That’s something I’ve never forgotten. Tonight I got to manage a team against that man.”
David Moyes became manager of Manchester United in 2013. He has managed over 1,000 games, with a career spanning 25 years.
He said: “It was a real honour to be in the opposite dugout to David Moyes.”
The Imps produced a spirited performance in the game and created a host of chances, especially in the first-half. The narrow 1-0 defeat was a reflection of how well Lincoln held their own against Premier League opposition.
It was a very proud moment for the Lincoln City head coach, as he said that managing a team against Moyes was an aspiration of his after their encounter.
He added: “I’m very proud, although it wasn’t as a Premier League manager, that it was in a fantastic cup competition.”
Despite Lincoln City’s strong performance, it was David Moyes’ team who advanced to the Carabao Cup Fourth Round, where they will face Arsenal.
