Mark Kennedy speaking to LincSportFormer Imps boss Mark Kennedy.

Former Lincoln City players Gavin Gordon and Grant Brown has spoken to LincSport after Mark Kennedy left his post as head coach of the Imps.

Kennedy left City on Wednesday, October 18th after a run of just two wins in ten games, ending in a 1-0 loss to Burton last Saturday.

Former Imps forward and Lincoln City FPA Chairman, Gavin Gordon, said: “It went really under the radar, I don’t think anyone was expecting it at all.” Adding that it was a bit of a shock to him.

“It will be interesting to see who they have their eyes on. If it was pre-planned they must have someone in mind,” he said.

Kennedy took charge in the summer of 2022 and has led over 70 Imps games. Gordon said: “He did well with what he had to do and what time he had to do it.”

Gordon delivered his thoughts on who might take the vacant position. He said: “I would put my bets on a young manager.”

The reasoning behind the club’s decision is yet unknown, but Gavin think it’s a culmination of a few factors. “A bad run of form, not scoring goals and maybe free jobs being around,” he suggested.

Lincoln City legend Grant Brown had his say on Mark Kennedy’s dismissal too. He said: “Obviously the club feel as though he’s taken them as far as he could.”

Brown played over 400 games for the Imps and enjoyed multiple spells as a caretaker manager.

He added: “I’m sure the club have got many people they would like to speak to about the job. I know that in previous years they have always been very proactive in identifying potential replacements for people.”

He doesn’t think the decision was a knee-jerk reaction, saying that Lincoln City are loyal to their appointments.

First Team coach Tom Shaw has taken interim charge of the team, as the club work behind the scenes to find Mark Kennedy’s successor.
