Mark Kennedy Press Conference

Speaking after Lincoln City somewhat convincingly beat Wolverhampton Wanderers U21’s 2-0 at the LNER Stadium, Mark Kennedy admitted that those fixtures aren’t his favourite.

He said: “Games against U21 sides are a bit of a nightmare. Tonight’s result will give people confidence, Hacks [Hakeeb Adelakun] scoring, Jordan [Wright] keeping a clean sheet, there’s a lot of positives to come out of it. You’re supposed to win, and we should beat them so it’s a banana skin avoided.”

One of the highlights on Tuesday night for City was Jovon Makama’s first goal of the season. The Imps manager gave us a rundown of how the forward has started the 2023/24 season. He said: “He’s shown us moments like that in training. At pre-season he was showing us it once every three weeks, but I told him I wanted to see it at least once or twice a week if not more.

“Circumstances pushed us into giving him minutes at certain times, but he is now getting them on merit.”

Regarding the team’s performance, Kennedy had this to say: “We were very professional tonight in and out of position.”

He added: “We pressed aggressively and pressed well. But this made players come into different positions and on different sides. We want to press a specific way, which I think we did well.”

Kennedy was very complimentary of Imps’ wing-back Jack Burroughs too. He said: “I thought Jack was excellent today. I didn’t want to play him today, but somebody had to. He’s a very robust player, if he was a car, he would be a very snazzy Volvo. I thought he was excellent tonight, and overall, it was a very pleasing performance.”

Lincoln City’s next match is on Saturday, as they host Burton Albion in League One action.
