Match Preview

Lincoln City travel to Devon this weekend as they visit Exeter City at St. James Park in SkyBet League One action.

Interim head coach Tom Shaw has kept his 100% record in charge of The Imps’, as his side brushed away Charlton Athletic in a statement win at the LNER Stadium on Tuesday, winning 3-1.

Opposition: Exeter City

The Grecians have had a poor start to the season, and two losses in successive games see them sit 18th in League One, five points off Lincoln.

Manager Gary Caldwell has just celebrated his first full year in charge of Exeter, following Matt Taylor’s dismissal.

The Devon outfit last won a league game on September 16, when they beat strugglers Cheltenham Town 1-0. Since then, they have only tasted defeat.

Exeter have scored just 11 goals in 14 games so far this season, with James Scott and Demetri Mitchell joint top scorers for the club, each scoring two goals in the league.

Team News:

Jack Vale made his first appearance for Lincoln on Tuesday night, coming on for the last 30 minutes of the match. It could be expected for him to appear in an Imps shirt again this weekend.

Reeco Hackett was substituted against Fleetwood with a knock and is not expected to travel with the squad, while Ted Bishop should be fit for Saturday.

Ben House, Tyler Walker, and Lewis Montsma all continue to receive treatment for their respective injuries and continue to be sidelined.

Grecians’ striker Admiral Muskwe is expected to start again, despite blanking in the league so far this season. After their recent loss to Derby County, Gary Caldwell said he “still believes in this group of players”, which may suggest very few changes coming into this weekend’s fixtures.

Played for Both:

Defender Jason Minett played for Exeter City on two occasions in his career, playing for Lincoln City in between. Minett played 107 games for Exeter and 46 games for the Imps.

Richard “Dixie” McNeil is another player who has played for both. “Dixie” played for the Grecians between 1966-1967, scoring 11 times in 31 games. The Striker moved to Lincoln later in his career, playing 97 games and netting 53 times between 1972 and 1974.

Head-to-Head:

Through the years, the Imps have had the better of their opposition. In the 66 times these teams have clashed, Lincoln have won 27. Exeter has won 21 and there have been 18 draws.

The sides first met in October 1962, with a 1-1 draw in the then Division Four.

The last time these sides played, Exeter won 2-1 at St James Park, thanks to a couple of Sam Nombe goals for the hosts and a consolation goal by now Lincoln captain Paudie O’Connor.
