Ex-Lincoln City striker Gavin Gordon gave his verdict on Michael Skubala’s appointment as the club’s new head coach.
He described it as a “solid appointment” and said: “I think it’s good. I thought it was the route they would go.”
However, Gavin did caution that it was a “gamble” to appoint a head coach who hasn’t permanently managed a football league club.
Skubala has led Leeds United in three Premier League games, as caretaker boss, and Gavin thinks his ties to Leeds will prove valuable for the Imps.
He said: “That’s the sort of connections a club at this level needs, with a top club, with bigger clubs.”
Lincoln have a good history with loan players, with the likes of Brennan Johnson once wearing the Imps colours.
Skubala left his post as Leeds United’s U21s head coach to take over at the LNER Stadium, his latest job in a coaching career spanning over 20 years.
Gavin, the Lincoln City Former Players’ Association (FPA) Chairman, said: “It’s good they haven’t rushed into something.” And added: “The recruitment policy has been for the future.”
He was wary that the appointment may be a slight let-down for some fans, who had their eyes set on a more high-profile name, saying: “People might be disappointment about the name because they may not have heard of him.”
However, he is definitely of the opinion that Skubala is a good appointment for the Imps.
Skubala is likely to try and implement his own style on the Lincoln team, perhaps straying from the tactics of former head coach Mark Kennedy.
Gavin said: “With the squad that Lincoln City have, I think it will fit with his style.”
He added: “Hopefully they’ve found that this is the best person to take Lincoln City forward.”
Michael Skubala will take charge of his first Imps game when they travel to Stevenage on Saturday, November 18th.
