The University of Lincoln women’s 1st team came away with a 3-1 against University of Nottingham’s 4th team in BUCs action.
The two teams were facing-off in the Conference Cup on Wednesday, 8, November 2023, as Lincoln welcomed Nottingham to Ruston Sports Club.
Despite conceding an early goal, Lincoln maintained control for most of the game and come from behind to win 3-1.
First-Half:
Nottingham got off to a lightning start, with Liv Stonkowska slotting home into the bottom left corner from just inside the box to make it 1-0 in only the 2nd minute.
However, from then on Lincoln took control. In the 9th minute, Lincoln saw a good effort from outside the box saved by Nottingham’s ‘keeper Charlotte Clampitt-Dix.
Only a minute later Lincoln drew level, with captain Betsy Thomas scoring a great strike from outside the box to make it 1-1.
Lincoln took a lead they would not lose in the 32nd minute. They had a good chance one-on-one, but Nottingham defender Tatum Sadler recovered well to only concede a corner.
After some battling in the box, Megan Harpham volleyed home for Lincoln to make it 2-1.
Despite further attempts for Lincoln, and Thomas particularly, the first half ended 2-1 to Lincoln.
Second-Half:
It was Lincoln who were the fast-starting team in the 2nd half, with another brilliant goal from outside the box by the captain, Thomas, in the 51st minute to make it 3-1.
The second half ebbed and flowed with Nottingham having chances to get back into the game and Lincoln having chances to extend their lead.
However, neither team could finish these and the full-time whistle blew, with the game ending 3-1 to Lincoln.

A brace from Betsy Thomas secured the win for Lincoln. They advance in the Conference Cup and will hope they can keep their good form going.
