Lincoln City defender Adam Jackson

Lincoln City defender Adam Jackson reviews a “frustrating night”, as the Imps end 2023 with a third defeat in a row.

He said: “I don’t know whether we have a bit of naivety where instead of just sticking to what we were doing, we try and maybe go a bit longer, a bit quicker because we’re chasing a goal.”

Michael Skubala’s men lost 1-2 to Northampton Town, as the visitors picked up their first win over Lincoln in 12 years.

“It’s a frustrating night because I think first 30 or 40 minutes we looked good and had a high press, but the goal took it out of us until half-time. Then, again I thought we started well in the second-half, but the goals just deflated us,” Jackson added.

Lincoln extended their winless run to six games in an all competitions, ending with month of December without a victory to their name.

However, Adam Jackson thought there were some positives to take from the defeat to Northampton.

He said: “If we do that first 30 minutes performance for the full 90, I think we score two or three goals, so a bit of naivety maybe.”

“It’s maybe not the worst performances in the world, there were patches where we were poor, but the results aren’t quite going. I think we’re probably one or two goals away and then getting a result.”

Lincoln City 1-2 Northampton Town
Second red card of the week for Lincoln City means yet another defeat.

City looked to be on their way back into the game in the second-half, as TJ Eyome pulled a goal back.

Jackson said: “I think the momentum sort of shifted, and even after the goal we had a few chances when were getting up the pitch, getting throw-ins and getting corners. I think we thought we were going to do it, but sadly not to be.”

He added: “I think we played well for a good section of the game, probably marred by the two poor spells we had. But, I think we played well, we’re just not creating enough at the minute. Hopefully we can change that and get a few goals next game.”

Lincoln travel to Blackpool to start the new year, as Michael Skubala‘s Imps look to end a poor run of results.
