Michael Skubala believes he has “settled quite well” since joining Lincoln City as their new head coach last month.
He said: “I think we’ve settled quite well. I think I’ve settled quite well, to be honest. I’m definitely into the flow of it now, with the games and a bit of a breather. It’s been really exciting and a really good whirlwind.”
The Imps head coach has taken charge of four SkyBet League One games, winning two, drawing one and losing the other.
Speaking to Siren Radio, Skubala added: “It’s great to work with the boys, it’s great to work with the staff, it’s great to get to know the fans a little bit, get to know the people of Lincoln City is really important as well. So, yeah, it’s been a really good start.”
Tom Shaw has been installed as Skubala’s assistant manager, making the step-up from his first team coach role following his time in interim charge following Mark Kennedy‘s dismissal.
The head coach said: “Me and Tom talk all the time, daily, on the phone, evenings, weekends…Tom’s a really good coach, very good on the grass, very good around the place. For me, having that number two that’s really strong, in Tom, I think is a great thing.”
He added: “In terms of learning, I think we all learn everyday and if we keep learning together I think that puts us in a strong position.”
The former Leeds United under-21s head coach was asked about how Tom Shaw had helped him get to know the players in his squad. He said: “I think it’s a challenge because he’s got to help me get to know the players, but also I’ve got to get to know them myself and I was quite clear about that. I wanted know all warts and all, but I make my own opinions on players, but he’s definitely helped in every aspect.”
Young Imps forward Jovon Makama has been afforded the opportunity to impress by the new boss. This has brought his first league start, when Barnsley drew 2-2 at the LNER Stadium.
On Skubala’s first three weeks in charge, Makama said: “I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I like the training sessions I’ve had with him and obviously playing while he’s on the sidelines, the information he’s been giving me, I’ve just tried to take it on board. I think it’s been good since he came in.”
