Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala

Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala reviews his sides’ performance in the 5-0 win against Bristol Rovers.

Speaking after the dominant win, he said: “This what we do”.

The start of dreams:

The Imps found themselves 3-0 up within the first 23 minutes, after captain Paudie O’Connor and a Joe Taylor brace put the game to bed before it had even got going.

Skubala said: “We started well again. We talk about starting fast and I think we were on the front foot and started really well. It was a different game to Cambridge. They are a really good team with the ball, and we had to weather a bit of a storm.”

“That’s what we are. This is what we do. We tell the boys that if you come and play us you know you have got to be on it,” he added.

Defence was still needed:

“Big man Lukas [Jensen], I thought we needed him today. I thought he was fantastic and make some fantastic saves in the first half. To get clean sheets in a game like that is not easy,” Skubala said.

The Dane picked up his sixth clean sheet in seven games, securing himself the man of the match award.

The game also saw Reeco Hackett contribute to the scoreline, with the 16 goals scored this week being spread across the team.

On this Skubala said: “I just like people scoring goals and when they are un the right places. [Joe Taylor] is improving all the time, which is why he came here, and he is a real threat to anybody.

The Imps extend their unbeaten run to 13 games.

More unavailability:

While the scoreline and result is excellent for the Imps, who now sit only three points off the play-off places, Ethan Erhahon was sent off for two yellow cards.

He will now miss the next game on Good Friday when they entertain Leyton Orient.

Skubala said: “We are going to have to go through bumps in the road, make big saves, if we are going to keep winning games. If not having Ethan is a bump in the road then that’s fine because we have a big group, who are solid, and when the bench comes on you saw how well they did with ten men.

“We have to stick together as a group and the midfielders will be ready to come in and do a job,” the Imps boss added.

City’s boss also confirmed a new injury within the side, with goalkeeper Jordan Wright being omitted from the squad on Saturday.

He said: “Jordan has got to have a scan, he felt something in his hip in training, so we need to wait for a scan, and he is a bit sore. We are hoping it is nothing too major, so we had to put Isaac on the bench just in case.”

A full Sincil Bank:

More than 9,300 were in attendance as Lincoln turned on the style. The Stacey West being opened for the home fans further boosted the attendance.

Skubala was proud of the Imps fans and thankful for their turnout.

He said: “It’s brilliant we can have the Stacey West stand full, or nearly full, because it does help the team. The noise and the fans were just electric. It’s good that everyone can enjoy the moments and today is a big moment to enjoy.”

“We now need to rest, recover, plan for the next game which is going to be a really tough game because Leyton Orient won today,” he added.
