Manager Chris Funnell and penalty shootout hero Jack Steggles react as Lincoln United claim their first piece of silverware since 2017.

The Whites won the Lincolnshire FC County Senior Trophy, beating Boston Town to seal the victory in a lengthy penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Lincoln United manager Chris Funnell:

United boss Funnel described the win as a “catalyst” for the rest of the season. His side are in the Isuzu FA Vase semi-finals, with a date at Wembley within reach, while still competing in the league cup and fighting for promotion.

Speaking to LincSport editor Jamie Johnson, he reviewed yet another penalty shootout victory, an even 90 minutes of football and a big night for the club at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

Penalty shootout hero Jack Steggles:

Lincoln United goalkeeper Jack Steggles scored his spot-kick and then saved the next to secure the Whites’ first-ever County Trophy win.

It was the latest in a season full of penalty shootout. Speaking to deputy editor Spencer O’Leary, the United shot-stopper described the deciding penalties as “manic” and said he was “full of happiness” after the win.

Lincoln United return to league action on Saturday, hosting Deeping Rangers at Ashby Avenue.
