Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox has said that goalkeeping coach Kevin Pressman has had a “huge impact” during his short tenure so far.

The experienced former Sheffield Wednesday ‘keeper, who spent 17 years at Hillsborough, joined the Holy Blues’ coaching staff this summer.

Pressman, who has a UEFA A Coaching License, has held positions at clubs including Millwall, Scunthorpe United and Grantham Town.

Speaking to The Linc, Wilcox said: “He’s incredible. It’s a massive coup for the football club, you’ve got a man there who’s had an unbelievable career, close to 20 years at Sheffield Wednesday, got in the England B squad as well.

“His coaching experience is what we are looking for now. He had a great spell at Scunthorpe United, a great spell at Millwall.”

Gainsborough re-signed Josh Render, who featured shortly at the back-end of Trinity’s 2023/24 campaign, before adding former Guiseley goalkeeper Ollie Battersby.

Wilcox revealed that Pressman’s coaching was one of the key reasons behind the latter’s choice to swap his former club for the Holy Blues.

“It’s the small details that are going to help the ‘keepers moving forward. I think that’s the main reason Ollie Battersby joined us, because he knew he was going to get top coaching,” he said.

Pressman linked up with the current Trinity boss at Scunthorpe United and at the Northern Ireland international set-up, where they each held coaching positions.

Wilcox added: “He’s had a huge impact, it’s the small details. I think most people can put little drills on, and do this, do that. It’s that attention to detail, and the small details that will make the ‘keepers better.”

Gainsborough Trinity are in the midst of their pre-season campaign, as they ready for the Northern Premier League curtain-raiser in August. To start, they picked up two wins in two outings: beating Club Thorne Colliery 2-0, before running out 4-1 winners at Bottesford Town.
