Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala was delighted with his side’s “electric” performance and attacking display in City’s 4-1 victory over Mansfield Town at the LNER Stadium.

City picked up their first home win of the season in front of a packed 9,800 strong crowd, to beat League One newcomers, Mansfield Town.

A career-first Adam Jackson brace, a Sean Roughan free-kick, and Ben House’s second goal of the season gave the Imps their first league victory over Town since 2007.

A Perfect Response:

The Imps head coach was pleased with the response that his side showed after last week’s defeat to Barnsley. Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, he said: “It was a great response from last week where we played well, but didn’t get the result. But we did really well today. The tactical plan was to try and catch them in transition and use our speed and intensity. I really liked the look of us today.”

“The second half of the first half I thought we were electric and we blew them away. It was a really good team performance.”

“Mansfield are a really good team with experienced coaches. They went to Barnsley blew them away in the first 20 minutes. They’re big and they’re physical and we had to deal with that.”

The ability to create chances is one thing. Putting the ball in the back of the net is another. Skubala was pleased with City’s quick start to the second half. He said: “We talk about starting fast and starting strong, we have done that in every game. We started the [second] half electric and it’s what you want, an early goal. It probably killed [the game] for them.”

Whilst three of the four goals came from defenders, including a career-first Adam Jackson brace, Skubala wants to be ruthless. He said: “It doesn’t matter to me who scores. We need to keep doing what we are doing, keep being aggressive with the ball, good with our intensity and get people in the box. We could have had more.

I’m proud of all the lads. They work so hard on the training pitch. Jacko and Paudie [O’Connor] lead with their standards, their professionalism. Those two win headers when they have to win headers, they have to put their bodies on the line, they do really well.”

A “Rocking” LNER Stadium:

Speaking to The Linc, Skubala recognised the enjoyable occasion for the City supporters. He said: “The place was rocking. At two nil up and three, the place was rocking. It’ll be really important. It’s nice when the place is rocking, but when we need the fans, they are going to be there, I know that.

We are going to need them to see a game out, or to win a game. I thought the crowd were fantastic.”

“We want to make sure that this is a tough place to come, so we can pick up points. But we know when we are us, and we are aggressive, we are a tough team to play against.”

City will look to kick on from this result when they travel to Stevenage on Saturday.
