The bank holiday weekend sees the second round of FA Women’s National League action, as Lincoln City travel to face Peterborough United, and Lincoln United host Solihull Moors.
Both sides are coming into the games following contrasting defeats on opening day, with The Whites preparing for their first home game in step four.
Peterborough United vs Lincoln City:
Lincoln City play their first away game of the season when they travel to Peterborough United this Sunday.
The Imps come into the clash off the back of a heavy defeat to Loughborough Lightning who put six past Charlotte Dinsdale’s young side in the campaign’s opener. At half-time City were just two goals down, but ultimately a strong second half performance from Lightning ensured they received all three points.
Meanwhile, Peterborough will be hoping to replicate last weekend’s strong display with yet another win this Sunday. The Posh cruised past Worcester City 4-1, thanks to a brace from Tara Kirk within the first nine minutes, and goals from Keir Perkins and Renai Bennett later on in the game.
Last Sundays’ win makes Posh undefeated in their last six league games, with their last defeat coming in March against Loughborough.
Imps boss Dinsdale said she ‘‘can’t fault her side’’ following their 6-0 defeat to the Lightning.
‘‘We’re a brand-new squad, I mentioned that previously. We’re on a bit of a rebuild and particularly first half I thought we performed really well. We were solid at the back, like I said some of the players that have come in have come in and done a fantastic job,’’ said Dinsdale.
Lincoln United vs Solihull Moors:
Lincoln United welcome Solihull to what will be there first home game since being promoted last season.
The Whites narrowly missed out on earning themselves a point while on the road last weekend. It was tied at 1-1 before Notts County’s Jessie Knott scored an 89th minute winner for her side.
Despite the loss, the Whites will be high in confidence given how close they came to getting off the mark last Sunday.
Solihull lost their first game of the season in very similar fashion to Lincoln United. They hosted Sutton Coldfield Town, and the game was goalless for the majority. However, in the 82nd minute Eva Rogers ensured the game would end 1-0 the way of Sutton.
Their defeat makes it just one win in their last five league games, however with plenty of new faces such as Brogan Pugh and Lana Timson, who both enjoyed spells at Lincoln City, the side will be hoping to gel soon and pick up points.
Whites vice-captain Olivia Smith said she ‘‘can’t wait’’ for her side’s first home fixture of the 2024/25 campaign.
She said: “I can’t wait for the first game back on home turf, and to showcase the hard work that has been put in over the last couple of months transitioning to tier four.
“No opposition this season will be taken lightly, however myself and the ladies are ready to prove a point and show what we can do.”
Both games kick-off at 2pm on Sunday, August 26.
