Lincoln’s first-ever soapbox race is just days away, as the city readies to host the “crazy” event.

The event, hosted by Krazy Races, will see homemade soapboxes race down Flaxengate, near to the Lincoln Museum.

Earlier in the year the Lincoln City Foundation were announced as the headline charity for the event, while many riders will also race for their own chosen charities.

The race, which takes place on Sunday, September 15, will start at 10:45am. The morning races will take place between 11am and 1pm, before a second set of competitors between 2pm and 4pm.

The ten fastest teams will then race again after 4pm, with the winners being confirmed by 4.30pm.

Event organiser Danny Scoffin said: “You can expect craziness. It’s a nostalgic family fun day, it captures that community spirit of people coming out and supporting local businesses and charities. There’s no barriers, literally and physically, it’s free, there are no tickets.

There are a plethora of homemade designs, with teams asked to perform at the start line before racing down the course.

Mr. Scoffin said: “One that really stands out for me is an old piano that BBC Radio Lincolnshire have turned into a soapbox, I’ve never seen that before. We’ve got a giant pink chicken!”

Krazy Races started 2024 with a race in Shrewsbury, before hosting events in Warrington, Crewe, Stockport and Wolverhampton across the summer.

The organiser added: “It’s nice to end the season on an event with a lot of teams. This is the sixth and final one of 2024, and we knew very early on how big this was going to be, we had the maximum number of teams within four days of launch in December.

“We’re really looking forward to it. The teams are some of the best soapboxes I have seen across the country, and there are some nice people and nice charities, businesses that are involved.”

Road closures have been announced for the day, with Danes Terrace, Flaxengate, Neustadt Court, parts of Danesgate, and some of Grantham Street, all shut between 4am and 8pm on the day.
