Lincoln City Women

Lincoln City return to league action where they face last weeks’ opposition Boldmere St. Michaels, while Lincoln United face Leafield Athletic.

The Imps currently sit at the bottom of the table, yet to get their seasonal points tally started. United, who were promoted last season, have faired better, and sit above the relegation zone.

Lincoln City vs Boldmere St. Michaels:

City are back at home, at Gainsborough Trinity’s KAL Group Stadium, where they face tough opposition in the form of Boldmere. The two sides met last weekend in the cup, in which Boldmere comfortably progressed through to the next round after a 9-1 win.

The Imps are still without a win in all competitions this season and have conceded 39 goals in just six games.

Boldmere will surely be confident going into Sunday’s game after having a successful cup win against the Imps last week. Janelle Straker was among the goalscorers, registering a hat-trick along with substitute Tilly Astell, who scored a brace.

City confirmed on Thursday that the side will be without Ebony Foley due to the midfielder rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

A club announcement said: “Everyone at City wishes Ebony all the best in her recovery as the club’s medical department guide her through her rehabilitation.”

Leafield Athletic vs Lincoln United:

Lincoln United, who currently sit ninth in the table, travel to Leafield a week after their six-goal thriller away to Northampton Town. The Whites lost 4-2 in the end, with the main cause a 23-minute hat-trick by Cobblers’ Kimberley Farrow.

Despite the result, United’s Olivia Smith was in fine form. She scored twice inside 25 minutes to put up a real fight for her side.

Leafield suffered cup defeat last weekend when they faced Stockport County. After drawing 1-1 in normal time, a winner in extra-time scored by Maria Figueiredo meant Stockport progressed to the next round.

Fourth placed Leafield will be without Hayley Crackle due to her picking up a red card late on in the game.

Both sides will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s losses, as they head into another league fixture.
