Lincoln City Women vs Peterborough United 1

Lincoln City Women and Lincoln United ready for another round of FA Women’s National League fixtures.

It comes off the back of improved performances last week, which saw The Whites secure their first win and the Imps their first goals.

Lincoln City vs Sutton Coldfield Town:

Lincoln City are back on the road after a frustrating 6-2 defeat to Solihull Moors, in Gainsborough, last weekend.

Despite this being the Imps fourth successive defeat in all competitions, it was the first time the side managed to score a goal this season. They even went into half-time with the score all square at 2-2, before Solihull took the game away from their hosts in the second-half.

This week’s visitors Sutton Coldfield played Notts County last week, and fell to a 1-0 defeat thanks to a 49th minute opener from ex-Imp Toni McHamilton.

Speaking after City’s defeat to Solihull, Lincoln City head coach Charlotte Dinsdale said: “Going into half-time at 2-2 we felt that we were in the game. Our third goal, really disappointed in terms of how we dealt with that and I think that’s put us on the back foot.”

However, Dinsdale insisted that she was impressed with her side’s ability to come back from 2-0 down.

She said: “We’ve suffered some pretty heavy defeats, and we’ve used that I guess as a bit of strength to try and fight back. I can’t fault the hard work and effort of the team.”

Lincoln United face tricky opposition in Loughborough Lightning, just one week after recording their first win in their new division. The Whites breezed past Worcester City on their travels, winning 4-0.

It lifted The Whites to seventh in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.

Meanwhile, Loughborough sit at the top of the table. The Lightning have won all three of their league games so far this term, and have amassed a goal difference of an impressive +16 already.

They beat Leafield Athletic 4-2 last time out, with goals coming from Jessica Collyer, Georgia Hewitt and a brace by Ella-Mai Coutts.

Whites player Stacey McConville says her side are going to have to “fight for every point this season”, and insisting they can compete in the league.

“Being a newly promoted side, we know that no game is going to be easy and we’re going to have to fight for every point. I feel we have proven we can compete in this league with our last three games and there’s definitely points up for grabs,” she said.

Loughborough beat Lincoln City 6-0 in the season opener last month.

McConville said: “Sunday is going to be tough, Loughborough are probably favourites to win the league. We were unlucky last season against them in the FA Cup. The girls are excited for this one and we will make sure we leave everything on the pitch on Sunday.”

Both sides kick off at 2pm on Sunday, September 8.
