Lincoln United's Ashby Avenue

Lincoln United confirm a duo of new additions before their trip to AFC Mansfield.

The Whites may sit second in their division, and just a single point behind leaders Eastwood CFC, but the management have not rested on their laurels. Instead, they have looked to add to their squad.

The step five outfit have welcomed Richie Burdett to Ashby Avenue after he impressed on trail. The attacker featured for United in their trip to Heanor Town in the UCL knockout cup, where Lincoln eventually won on penalties.

The former Lincoln City and Grimsby Borough man has spent time at a number of non-league clubs, but has now linked up with Scott Hellewell.

The manager told The Linc: “Richie is someone we have known for years. He wanted to give step five another go so we offered him the chance to play Wednesday at Heanor Town and he impressed. He gives us another attacking option.”

The other recruit is someone who has their names in the footballing history books for Grimsby Town. As a 15-year-old he netted a goal to become the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer, in the game that was his senior debut.

Louis Boyd, primarily a winger, has played for Cleethorpes Town and Barton Town during his non-league career.

Hellewell explained why he had brought the young wide-man to Ashby Avenue, and said: “Louis was the best player on the pitch last season when we came up against Cleethorpes. As soon as I heard he was available it was a no brainer getting him in. He gives us options in a few positions and more quality too.”

Both of Lincoln United’s new signings will be available for the trip to AFC Mansfield on Saturday, October 5. The Whites’ will go searching for a first league win in three games, after a loss to Eastwood and draw to Melton Town followed their nine-game winning streak.
