Lincoln United Women

Both Lincoln City and Lincoln United head on the road in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action, with the Imps matched up against Leicester City and the Whites facing Shrewsbury Town.

The two sides come into the cup clashes in contrasting form. City are yet to collect a point this season, while United are on a high after securing a late victory over Sutton Coldfield Town.

Lincoln United vs Shrewsbury Town:

Last weekend, the Whites won 3-2 at home to Sutton Coldfield Town. Their win put them comfortably above the relegation zone and ten points clear of their local rivals, Lincoln City.

It was Chris Funnell’s first game back in permanent charge of the side, after he returned to Ashby Avenue to initially take the interim reins.

The game was 2-1 to Sutton Coldfield with just seven minutes to go, however an equaliser by Amy Copley and then a last-minute winner from substitute Alice Hayes resulted in a huge three points for the Whites.

United’s dramatic winner also saw new signing Elise Keyworth bag her first goal since joining the club. Cassie Jenkins also made her debut.

Shrewsbury sit in sixth place in the West Midlands Regional Premier Division. They have won two and lost two, with their most recent win in the FA Cup coming against Lichfield City.

Lincoln City vs Leicester City Academy:

City come into the FA Cup clash off the back of another defeat in league action, making it their tenth loss in all competitions this season.

They played an in-form Leafield Athletic side, who have lost just one game this season, and lost the encounter 3-0. Based off the score line, the result could perhaps show an improvement from Charlotte Dinsdale’s young side, as they await their first win of the term.

Leicester have had a lack of games this year. In fact, their only game was a home walk over away to Manchester United Academy. That being said, they are an outfit that will likely bring with them a strong squad.

Both sides kick off at 2pm on Sunday, October 13.
