Lincoln City midfielder Conor McGrandles praised the fans following the Imps’ 3-2 defeat to League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
Lincoln’s number 14 said the fans were “brilliant” after lacking a clinical edge and ruthlessness saw City to their first defeat in seven games. Michael Skubala admitted as much in his post-match interview, but also praised his squad’s efforts.
McGrandles said “It’s no surprise [that the fans stayed behind the team], every game we get that support from them which you can’t say for every team in this league.
“The boys do actually speak about it, the support helps so much, and we thank them for their support again today.”
Tendayi Darikwa netted a brace from wing-back for Lincoln, but ended up on the losing side after Wycombe continued their fine form. The Chairboys have now recorded nine straight wins, and sit pretty at the top of the League One table, ahead of the likes of big-spending Birmingham City, promoted Wrexham, and former Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town.
Reflecting on the performance, the Scottish midfielder said: “It was a bit disappointing, I don’t think there was much in the game. The chances they had, they took; and we didn’t defend those situations anywhere near as well as we’d have wanted.
“We left a few chances out there that we could have done better with. Being better than us in both boxes was what won them the game.”
Lincoln have a quick turn around before they make the long trip to Wales on Tuesday, November 26, to face Wrexham.
McGrandles looked ahead to the game, and said: “We’ve got to always look to improve, and that’ll be no different on Tuesday. So we’ll rest up, analyse what happened today and go into the game on Tuesday with full confidence that we can pick up some points.”
