While their FA Cup exploits have been hitting the headlines, Gainsborough Trinity have also been busy on the transfer front.

Either side of their historic victory over Hednesford Town, where they fought back from 3-0 to eventually win on penalties, the Holy Blues added two additions.

First came a familiar face, in the form of George Hornshaw. The midfielder has spent multiple spells at the KAL Group Stadium and has now returned on a non-contract basis.

In an agreement, which Trinity manager Russ Wilcoxs described as “open ended”, the former Scunthorpe United man pulled on the Gainsborough blue.

Wilcox said: “It’s great to have him back. He scored a key penalty as well. Coming on in midfield when the lads were cramping up… he played a good part.

“I know a lot about him from his Scunthorpe days, so it’s good to have him back in the camp.”

“We communicate really well me and George, because we go back a long way, so there is a lot of trust between us. We will see how it goes.”

A Fresh Addition:

On Sunday, it was confirmed that Lincoln United striker Jack McMenemy had switched the Whites for his boyhood blues.

The hometown attacker has managed 17 goal contributions in 20 appearances this term. He has netted 36 times across his 85 appearances for Lincoln, and now jumps up two divisions to join Gainsborough Trinity in the Northern Premier League.

Wilcox said: “We’re pleased with that one. Obviously, he’s a Gainsborough boy as well, so hopefully there is a fire in his belly to do well for the football club.

“I watched his progress at Lincoln United, he’s scored lots of goals there, he scored against us in pre-season. He’s a good age at 26, so he knows the non-league game and what is required. Hopefully he will be a good signing, and go straight into the squad.”

Trinity travel to Whitby Town on Bonfire Night, before hosting Workington AFC on Saturday.
