Lincoln’s High Street was packed with excitement as festive sparkles hit the city.

Starting at 4:30pm, people began flooding the street enjoying the live entertainment from BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Lincoln’s Mayor, Alan Briggs, will set the stage at 7:10pm. Key guests such as Louis Smith MBE, Amelia Lily, and Patrick Monahan also joined Lincoln in celebrating to get everybody in the festive spirit.

Organiser Kate Fenn said: “We’re hoping tonight sets Lincoln in a nice Christmassy mood… Everybody looks really happy, and everybody seems to be getting into the Christmas spirit.”

Adding on to this, PCSO Alex Webber, from Lincolnshire Police, said: “It’s going very well, we’ve got a lot of good members of the public around, we’re making sure they’re keeping safe, and they’re enjoying the Christmas light switch on.”

As the night drew in, more people began to show up, some with their furry friends, to watch the live performances.

The University of Lincoln’s production ‘The Snow Queen’ and the New Theatre Royal’s cast of ‘Snow White’ with many more got everybody dancing and singing while waiting for the moment we were all waiting for.

Mayor Briggs finally joined the stage and delivered a message before pulling the leaver to kick-start the city’s countdown for Christmas.

He said: “It’s such a fantastic occasion for me, as the 819th Mayor of our historic, wonderful city, to welcome you all here tonight to this much-loved annual event.”

Friends Ben and Alfie said: “We’ve had a great time tonight, it’s really good, Christmas is going to be great!”
