A rowing club in Lincoln will aim to complete a 24-hour ‘rowathon’ to raise money for charity.
All of the funds raised from the challenge will go to the Movember charity, which tasks people with growing moustaches or hosting fundraisers to battle men’s suicide rates, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Members of the University of Lincoln Rowing Club (ULRC) will row for a full 24 hours, from 6pm on Friday, November 15 to the same time on Saturday, November 16.
A statement from the ULRC said they were taking part in the 24-hour row in solidarity of men who make up sky-high suicide statistics. They will be complete the challenge as a group to remind people that they are not alone.
The club has over 70 members, and are keen to ensure a high turnout and significant fundraising pot.
Jack Mooney, vice-president of the club, said: “Our aim is to show everyone that they are not alone, not only are we a united club, but everyone is united in this battle against mental health.
“Last year we completed around 360 km in 24-hours. I am wanting us to push above 400 km as a group in support of men across the UK.”
The club’s fundraiser has passed £700, with the rower hoping to push it even further.
Later in the month, the club will be holding two other events. The first is a 12.5 km hike in honour of the 12.5% of men that are diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Then, a inter-club five-aside football tournament that is currently in the works.
