The upcoming event, Sleep Easy 2025, is set to take place Friday 7, March 2025. Starting at 7pm and finishing at 7am, the 12-hour event invites locals to go brave the cold for the night.

Sleep Easy is an event held by YMCA Lincolnshire. Since its beginnings in 2010, it has become a national event that takes place every year to raise money for those who are at risk of not having a home.

Using carboard boxes to build a shelter, those attending will be sleeping in the Deans Green behind Lincoln Cathedral for a night, raising funds to prevent those at risk of homelessness from having to experience the same.

Megan Panther, Communications and PR Coordinator at YMCA Lincolnshire, speaking on the challenges when taking part in the event said: “I don’t know if people do sleep through the night, obviously it’s a hard challenge, it’s braving the cold.”

It’s uncomfortable on the floor but unfortunately that’s the reality for a lot of people in Lincolnshire… you often find a lot of people wrapped up ready for bed by 9pm.”

Sleep Easy 2024 saw 40 people attend the event to raise funds for one of the YMCA’s housing projects, Sheridan House, Lincoln. Converting it from 8 bedrooms with a shared kitchen to 16 apartments. Improving the level of independence residents living in shelters.

This year’s project is aiming to raise £15 thousand which is all going straight to help develop the organisations shelters and housing as well as various activities that the YMCA have across Lincolnshire.

YMCA over the last ten years has seen over 7,000 people partake in the event raising over £1.5 million in aid of homelessness prevention and support.

Pre-order tickets to book your pitch for the event are currently available for £10. Be ready with carboard and sleeping bags in hand for March 7.
