Lincoln City striker Jovon Makama who played a pivotal role in the Imps 2-0 win against Reading on Saturday, and described the “positive” of lifting back into the play-off spots.

He said: “I thought we kept the ball and worked them as much as we could and you know penetrated when we needed to, and yeah we got two goals and definitely could have got more but it’s an improvement on our last few games.”

Makama caused problems throughout the game for the Reading defence, and his excellent performance earned him the man of the month accolade.

The victory, which came after goals from Bailey Cadamarteri and Reeco Hackett, was the Imps’ first win in the league since October.

It was also an important one because it put them back in the play-off positions and on 31 points ahead of the late December flurry of games.

Makama said: “For the first 15-20 minutes of the game we were trapping them in the attacking half and you know they crumbled and we got a goal from it.”

Referee’s verdict:

The win was not without troubles though, as in the first half Reading had a clear penalty shout when striker Sam Smith was brought down in the box. Makama laughingly, said: “From my angle I couldn’t really see it, so yeah I don’t know.”

Head coach Michael Skubala had said he thought it was a penalty when discussing the incident post-match.

Makama did however agree with the decision to give Louie Holzman a red card, saying: “I think Ben House was clear through, so it is a goal scoring opportunity, and he’s brought him down so definitely a red card.”

More to come for Lincoln City:

Makama has really shone since having to change his style from playing with his back to the defence, to running onto the ball more frequently. When quizzed on this alternation, he said: “I get the ball out wide and can take my time take touches and drive at the left-back or left centre half, and yeah I enjoy it.”

The Imps head into the busy festive period back in the play-offs, with the Lincoln academy graduate saying: “It’s a positive, all week we planned for it and we wanted the three points. So onwards and upwards onto the next game where we can do the same thing.”

Up next for the Imps is a trip to face bottom of the table Shrewsbury Town on Boxing Day.
