“Once one goes in, they are all going to go in. We know have not won in six; it is easier said than done – but we start with a clean sheet today, so hopefully we can build on that.”
Those are the thoughts of Lincoln City defender Sean Roughan, after he helped the Imps to secure a fifth clean sheet of the season and just a second at home in a goalless draw against Charlton Athletic.
The result saw Lincoln extend their winless run to six league games. But, the Irishman, who has the most league appearances among defenders for the club so far this season with 19, was optimistic about the team’s prospects moving forward.
On the defensive side of the result, he said: “What we’ve been doing the last games, we have played nice football – we looked at it back and said in both boxes we’re not doing enough in it. Today, we sorted out our own box and we defended that well.
“It’s just getting the final product but look, that’s going to come, the strikers we have are excellent and once one goes in, they’re all going to go in.”
A Result that Cannot be “Dwelt” On:
Lincoln City are currently within a monthly schedule of seven games and in this busy festive period. Defenceman Roughan explained that there are plenty of games and opportunities to move on quickly from their mixed run of results.
“We’ve got to just keep on going and going because it is football, games are thick and fast, we can’t just dwell on this,” he said.
Speaking to The Linc, Roughan looked ahead to the Imps next two outings. They visit Morecambe on Tuesday, December 10, in the EFL Trophy, before a trip to Huddersfield on Saturday.
He said: “They are two different types of games. One [against Morecambe] in the league below us, but we don’t take it lightly. I know this group wants to go to Wembley, especially me.
“Huddersfield, they used to be in the Premier League a couple of years ago, so they are going to be good. We’ve got to go again and all of us have got to be on our game.”
