After being forced to wait a week due to schedule changes, Lincolnshire’s Abbi Pulling emphatically secured the F1 Academy title this weekend.
Pulling held an 83-point lead going into the weekend, with 84 points available across the three races and qualifying sessions. The Spalding driver needed to score just one point to finally see off second placed Dorianne Pin, and she did so at the first attempt.
The Brit secured the title, and her 2025 seat at Rodin Motorsport, by taking the bonus point for pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session.
She then also went on to win the first two races of the weekend scoring a further 28 and 27 points respectively. However, she could not quite complete the clean sweep, while a second placed in the final race of the season allowed her to scoop a further 20 points.
The result makes her the first British driver to win the F1 Academy title, after last season’s inaugural edition was won by Spain’s Marta Garcia. It creates history, after it being originally thought she had won the title last weekend.
More History for Lincolnshire’s Abbi Pulling:
This is not the first time that Pulling has made in history, as in 2018 she became the first female driver to defend her Super One British Karting Championship.
She now has her eyes set on becoming the first female driver to take part in a Formula 1 race since 1992.
Rodin Motorsport will give her the chance to take one step closer to that as she rises up to GB3 next year. That is a series that includes races at five Formula 1 tracks, including Silverstone.
Speaking in her post qualifying interview, Pulling said: “At the beginning of the year, I had no choice but to win. I’ve struggled financially in the past, but to get the prize for next year, that makes me so happy.”
That seat in GB3 comes fully funded as a result of this F1 Academy victory. She described the prize as “priceless” last week, as it allows the Brit to continue her development.
