Lincoln United reached the final of the Lincolnshire FA County Trophy after defeating Brigg Town 2-1 on penalties, as they look to defend last year’s silverware.
The game finished level at the end of the 90 minutes, with Jack Steggles producing some penalty shootout heroics to secure progression.
A Lightning Start:
Lincoln squandered a golden chance within the first minute after a Brigg tackle played Jack McMenemy through on goal but the forward dragged a finish wide.
United were forced into an early change as Owen Vincent suffered a recurrence to a shoulder injury. The forward was replaced by Jaime Ture in the 14th minute.
The Whites made the breakthrough in the 19th minute. McMenemy, who recently returned on a full-time basis after a dual registered stint with Gainsborough Trinity, rounded Lewis Hill and managed to finish past the Brigg man on the line at the second time of trying.
Brigg fought to find the leveller and came close when a bobbling effort from 20-yards needing tipping wide by Jack Steggles.
Just before the half hour mark, a clever ball from McMenemy played though Paul Grimes. He was felled by the ‘keeper 30 yards from goal as he rounded him, and Hill was shown the yellow card.

Cannot quite find the winning touch:
Lincoln United nearly doubled their lead in the 50th minute. Leo Priestley’s free kick was nodded narrowly wide by Tom Hipwell.
Brigg found the equaliser just before the hour mark. A scramble from a corner fell to the feet of Danny North, who back heeled in from close range.
The game quietened in the number of chances, until Jaime Ture came inches away from a winner in the 81st minute. He powered an effort that rattled the cross bar from the edge of the area.
Penalties and Steggles: The Perfect Match
The game was level after 90 minutes so the referees whistle indicated that the game would be decided by penalties.
Jack Steggles was once again the penalty shootout hero for United as he saved three in the shootout. Combine that with successful conversions from Elliot Dye and Steggles himself saw the Whites reach the final, where they will play either Bourne Town or Blackstones FC.
