Russ Wilcox reflected on what he described as a “difficult” afternoon, as his Gainsborough Trinity side fell to a heavy defeat against Macclesfield.
The runaway league leaders, managed by former Wales international Robbie Savage, put four past the Holy Blues. The Silkmen netted twice in half time, taking their chances when they presented themselves.
Speaking to The Linc sports reporter Thomas Westcott, Trinity’s manager said: “We’ve got to do better in certain aspects, but I thought the work ethic from the group, even the lads when we made changes stuck together.”
Wilcox compared the defeat to FA Trophy victory over York City a fortnight ago, the gulf in class between Macclesfield and the rest of the Northern Premier League, as well as Sam Fishburn’s debut on loan from Scunthorpe United.
