Despite national figures plummeting, a Lincoln Church has said it’s seen an uptake in young people attending its congregation. Alive Church Lincoln Central is a modern Christian church, which runs services for young people including live music, discussion tasks and bible groups.

This comes despite national statistics showing a decline in people who identify as Christian. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said 46% of people in the UK identify as Christian and the average age is 51 years old.

In Lincoln, 42% of people identify as Christian, according to the ONS.

Alive Church Group Leader Seun Barbs said: “Young people invite young people. Young people see other young people doing great stuff for Jesus.” It is what you see that gets you attracted to something. So, when they see how much impact it’s having in the lives of other people that they know, they just come and see.”

University of Lincoln student Lambert Omekoko is a member of Alive Church and also helps run some of the group sessions. He said: “As soon I tried it, I expected joy, I experienced Jesus Christ and that’s the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced myself.

“The best thing about Christianity is that it’s available to anyone who wants to receive it. It’s not exclusive, it’s not a hidden thing. It’s open.”

The Alive Church is at 22 Newland, and a is part of a group of churches across Lincolnshire including in Gainsborough, Grantham, North Hykeham and Scunthorpe. The church holds Life Groups for young adults between 18 and 30 on Wednesdays and Sundays from 7pm as well as services for children and adults too.
