Tom Bayliss spoke about a “complete performance” from Lincoln City, as they eased past Peterborough United over the weekend.

The Imps midfielder netted his first goal for the club after signing in the summer from Shrewsbury Town. His direct free-kick fired directly into the top corner, as the home side cruised to a 5-1 victory.

Speaking to The Linc, Bayliss said: “It was a complete performance all day. We worked hard from back to front, I think that is what a Lincoln performance is all about. We were dangerous from set pieces, we press high, and hopefully we score lots of goals.”

The press remains a key part of Lincoln’s goal, as Bayliss said himself. Head coach Michael Skubala credited that side of City’s game when he spoke after the result.

He continued: “The press is part of our game and how we want to play, I think we did that really well today. We won the ball high up the pitch on a number of occasions and it led to really good chances for us today.”

Set piece successes for Lincoln City:

Set pieces were a constant threat for Lincoln on Saturday afternoon, including Bayliss’ free-kick.

The midfielder said: “I think we got four goals from set pieces, so it’s a big asset of ours. We work on them very hard and it’s really nice to see that pay off.

“It’s nice [to see it go in], the staff have been on more to shoot a bit more. I need to do that, and I need to get more goals, so it’s a really good feeling.”

Looking ahead to Blackpool:

Lincoln City host Blackpool on Tuesday night, with back-to-back wins against Northampton Town and now rivals Peterborough.

Bayliss said: “It’s always nice to have momentum, two wins on the bounce we will look to make that three on Tuesday night.”

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, he added: “I think you’ve seen two different sides to us. The three points against Northampton were hard fought, we just needed to get over the line… and then today, we kind of just blew them away.

“We were really physical with them and we got five goals, we could have probably had more.”
